Definetley wasn´t a bad experience and I would watch it again simply because of the terrifying yet exciting atmosphere and aura this movie has. I have been focused on gore and finding content like this and breaking it down. If however you do feel like a big man and all ballsy go for it. I´m not surprised that this is banned in every place on earth tho since this is mostly just illegal and terrifying content. I had a bad feeling watching this movie and it was a good feeling at the same time. Still woulnd´t reccommend it tho since especially the dog scene (you know which one im talking about) is just abhorrent. However that did not stop me from watching the whole movie in one sitting since it was really interesting to see how the whole lore of the movie developed and Midori eventually grew onto my heart. However the worst part was the atmosphere and the music. Imo it was very disturbing and not enjoyable at all, being filled with gore, pedophilia, body destortion and fetishes. 10/10 recommend for a very pleasant terrible week. if you see Midori Shoujo Tsubaki as the same level as actual child abduction, violence and sexual abuse, maybe go touch some grass. but treating the author as a horrible person and the movie as glorifying child abuse amongst other things just shows that you're very thin skinned and can't think critically. despite that, it represents a very real situation, specially at the time (early 20th century Japan), would you expect a movie that talks about such a serious and disturbing matter to be anything but saddening? there's nothing wrong with disliking Midori Shoujo Tsubaki, in fact i'd say it's understandable.
no child was harmed, it does not condone violence and sexual abuse, it's nothing but fiction. it's very easy to file this as "morally aborrent" as i've seen many treat it as, but at the end of the day it's just a piece of fiction. yes, it's disturbing, it's raw, it's unsettling - that is its purpose. after watching it so many times, it remains as one of my favorites.
It was meant to show the darker, hard to explain and frowned upon to be talked about, cruelties of this world. You may say “thank god this was banned,” You may ask “why would anyone make this movie and help make this movie in the first place?” Well, the creator animated this entire movie by himself! He made it also to represent something he was personally related to. having a main plot that gets to its point, but also leaving room for you to fill in “blanks” in the movie that don’t exist, as if you want there to be more and more to the story. I don’t support anything bad that happened in the movie of course, as there was rape, pedophilia, domestic violence, animal abuse, and lots of gore… yes that sounds really bad, but it was all there for you to make sense of it. as if nothing else mattered but to watch the movie. Through all of that, it was disturbing and that’s what it was supposed to do! I really found that it fed my curiosity so much, whatever needed to be guild had been by that movie. I do feel it would be disturbing to most, and when I watched it for the first time it most definitely caught me off guard. This movie was very intriguing, I loved it.
